# The Mae Hong Son Loop > 1,864 curves between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son, and everything worth stopping for A bilingual (English and Thai) directory and route guide for the Mae Hong Son loop in northern Thailand, built from 115 named sources. Every claim carries a provenance tier. Records are CC BY 4.0. ## What is measured here, and how - Curve counts are computed from OpenStreetMap way geometry: ways carrying each route number are stitched, resampled every 60 m, and walked accumulating heading change; an arc over 25 degrees is a curve, over 120 a hairpin. Route 1095 measures 184.9 km and 1056 curves, 110 of them hairpins. This measures a volunteer trace, not a road survey. - The roadside sign and merchandise carry 1,864 for the Chiang Mai–Pai road; Thai Wikipedia's Route 1095 article says 'more than 2,000'. Over the Mae Malai–Pai span this project counts 395 at a 25-degree threshold. All three figures are printed with their methods. - Route 1096 (Samoeng) measures the densest curves on this network at 4.46/km, ahead of Route 1095 at 4.03. - Air: 15,050 point-days of modelled daily PM2.5 at ten points, Aug 2022 onward, from Copernicus CAMS via Open-Meteo. The model never exceeded 99.4 µg/m³ daily mean; ground stations have recorded far higher. - Mae Hong Son province (12,765 km²) has 1 official PM2.5 monitor.
