The answer to whether you must go to Bangkok is this shop. One thing to know before ringing: Chiang Mai is a SMALL SHOWROOM and the stock ships up from a large warehouse in Bangkok. So you order and wait rather than carrying something out — though the shop's own account is that the wait is short, with no number given. That makes the question on the phone not "do you have one" but "how many days from order to delivery, and can I try one in the showroom first?" Rates from the company's national pages: flute 350, clarinet 450, trumpet 450, alto sax 750, French horn 1,550, viola 550, violin 950, cello 550, drum kit 500 baht a month, on 3, 6 or 12-month terms with a 300–1,500 baht deposit. A Japanese upright piano starts at 990 a month on a one-month minimum, with 2,500 for delivery both ways, one tuning included and a 20,000 deposit.
