BedsThe hut with no wall on the valley side
กระท่อมที่ไม่มีผนังด้านหุบเขา
Bamboo, a mattress, a mosquito net, and the whole valley where the fourth wall should be.
Manuel Jobi · CC BY-SA 2.0What it is
The form that made Pai's name and has since spread down the whole circuit: a raised bamboo platform hut, open on the view side, often with the bathroom in a separate box.
The long version
Inference — what you are buying is the first ten minutes after you stop riding, when you sit on the step with the engine ticking as it cools and the valley doing whatever the valley is doing. On a trip whose whole subject is motion, the places that make stopping worth something are doing the heavier work.
Two things worth knowing. It is cold before dawn from November to February and bamboo is not insulated, so the blanket matters more than the view does at five in the morning. And the huts with the best view are usually up the steepest track — the one at the bottom of the slope looks at the same valley.
