StopsTham Lot

A limestone cave in Pang Mapha district with the Nam Lang stream running through it. Entered by lamp and by bamboo raft, with a local guide.

The cave carries prehistoric material — wooden coffins of the kind the district is known for — as well as the river. Tradition holds — visitors are taken through by local guides with pressure lamps, and the raft sections are poled.

Inference — the reason to sleep in Soppong rather than push on is largely this: the cave wants a couple of hours and morning is when the guides and the light are both there.

At dusk a very large roost of birds and bats exchanges places at the entrance, which is a spectacle that costs nothing and needs you to be there at the right hour rather than to pay for anything.

A national park fee applies and Thailand charges foreigners a separate rate; the guide and lamp are a separate, locally set charge. Neither figure is printed here because neither was verified on the build date.
