What it is

The measured density of this road is the argument for renting the cheap thing, and it is not a compromise.

The long version

Inference — Route 1095 measures 5.71 curves a kilometre, Route 1263 measures 6.03 and Route 1096 measures 6.34. At those densities you are never on a straight long enough for horsepower to express itself. What you are doing instead, continuously, is choosing a line, judging a radius you cannot fully see, and carrying momentum through a corner rather than making it with the throttle.

A 110cc step-through is completely absorbing at that game, because it has no power to fall back on and every bit of speed has to be kept rather than bought. There is a specific pleasure in arriving at the top of a climb having not touched the brakes, and it is available on the cheapest machine in the shop.

The measured figures also say something less obvious: the road with the merchandise is only third. Route 1096, the Samoeng day loop an hour from Chiang Mai, is denser than the famous one. So is the 1263.

Inference — which means the best riding on this network is not where the shirts are sold, and a rider on a 125 has access to all of it.
