What it is
Thailand's non-immigrant visa categories include study, and a registered muay thai school can be the reason for one. This is a long-standing, ordinary arrangement, not a loophole.
The long version
Inference — the reason this matters is arithmetic. A visa exemption stamp gives you weeks. Muay thai does not work in weeks: the shin needs months, the clinch needs months, and every fighter on this site started as a child and trained daily for years. Anyone serious about training in Thailand runs into the visa before they run into a plateau.
What this project can say is what the categories are, because they are published. What it does not have on this disk: current fees, current processing times, the current list of schools approved to sponsor, the current in-country extension rules, or what changed last month. Two categories are relevant and they are not the same thing.
Type ED is the study visa — to study; to come on a work study tour or observation tour; to participate in projects or seminars; to attend a conference or training course; to study as a foreign Buddhist monk.
Type B is the business category, and its own published description includes "attend scuba diving, muay Thai, and massage courses" — the sport is named, in the list, by the state.
Which one a given school sponsors depends on how that school is registered.
