What it is
An old town on the Gulf coast, once a seat of Srivijaya, now best known outside Thailand for a boxing style and a forest monastery.
The long version
The fights were at Sala Kao Hong, the nine-room pavilion at Phumriang, at the Chak Phra festival: a dirt floor, four posts, hemp rope, no weigh-in, five rounds rotated between every pair on the bill.
The pavilion was later pulled down by the governor's third son. The well is still there.
