The long version
What separates it from a karate or taekwondo kick is that nothing is chambered. The hip goes first and the shin follows through the target rather than snapping back off it. The stance behind it is narrower than a boxer's, because the base is there to be turned on, not to be punched from.
Land it on the thigh enough times and the other man cannot push off that leg; land it on the ribs and he stops breathing properly in the fourth. Neither is spectacular and both win fights, which is most of what a foreign viewer is missing.
