What it is
Born Charin Sondee, 27 December 1961, Nakhon Luang district, Ayutthaya. Lumpinee lightweight champion, and the tallest knee fighter anyone had seen.
The long version
Started at twelve. Followed his brother to Si Racha, joined the So Worakunchai camp there, and took the ring name he kept. Toured the eastern provinces, arrived at Rajadamnern in 1976, and between 1977 and 1985 beat most of the best fighters in Thailand — Samart Payakaroon among them.
The press called him khun khao sao thoralek, the telegraph-pole knee, and khun khao thalai fa, the sky-breaking knee. He was long in the arm and longer in the leg, and the whole fight was about getting a hand behind a head that was a foot below his.
Tradition holds — he retired as champion because promoters could not find anyone willing to take the fight. That is the story the sport tells about him and it is told about very few others.
