What it is

The northeastern line, from Nakhon Ratchasima. The rope was wound to the elbow here, and the punch it is known for travels furthest.

The long version

Under Rama V, bouts were held before the throne at Suan Misakawan and fighters were selected from every province. Korat's man was Nai Daeng Thai-prasert, a student of the governor, who was given the title Muen Changat Choeng Chok.

The style's own list is the longest of the four and the strangest. Five teaching techniques, all of them plain instructions — going in, punch outside; coming out, punch inside — and then twenty-one older ones which are nothing of the kind. This project counted them: eleven of the twenty-one name an animal, six name a figure out of the epic, and two name an object.

The animals are not the temple menagerie either. A carp hiding by a stump. A quail going into its nest. A rat running along a rail. A crow slipping a snare.

Inference — the central curriculum is a court's bestiary and Korat's is a farmer's.
