How this was made
A static site built from 153 records in a public repository. Every figure printed anywhere on it is computed at build time from those files and from the harvests, so a number on a page and a number in the API cannot drift apart.
The harvests. OpenStreetMap by Overpass, in a hundred tiles, for 52,389 ways and 8,055 km in a box from Mae Rim to Saraphi; the same source for the wats, the water, the signals and the bridges. The Department of Highways’ open-data traffic counts, five years of CSV, filtered to the province’s 81 stations. The Department of Disease Control’s three-database road-death file, one row per death, filtered to the province. TomTom’s city index, parsed off the page. Copernicus DEM through Open-Meteo for the relief. Thai and English Wikipedia at named revisions, a 2005 Chiang Mai University thesis, the municipality’s own data sheet, and the newspapers, for the dates and the money.
The measurements follow Boeing’s 2019 method for street orientation and the usual definitions for intersections, dead ends and block length, on the drivable network without service lanes, in five zones: the square inside the moat and four bands of distance from its centre. The old-city page prints the table and says what each column is.
Tiers. Every claim carries one: cited names a source, harvested came out of an open dataset with its licence, tradition is general knowledge and is hedged, inference is this project’s own reasoning from the above. The record page for anything you doubt has the table at the bottom.
Both languages, or neither. Each page is one build function called twice. The Thai is written in the northern register where the register fits, and marked as this project’s writing, not a translation. 223 fields are in Thai.
What it does not have is on its own page, linked from the stories.
Who made it. hongdam.net, a bilingual web studio in Chiang Rai. The enriched, graphical sites in this family are all built there.
