What it is

The Ping's October 2024 flood as a list of roads. The gauge at Nawarat Bridge, P.1, bank level 3.70 m, read 4.93 on 26 September, 5.26 at eleven on the night of 4 October, and 5.30 at noon on the 5th, 1.10 m over the bank, the highest in fifty years by the newspapers and since the early 1970s by others. The irrigation department put the peak flow at 604 cubic metres a second and had it back to 3.70 by the morning of the 7th.

The long version

Under water, from the reports: Tha Phae Road from the bridge to the Krung Thai bank; Kaew Nawarat Road from the Nakhon Ping bridge to San Dek junction and the Arcade, for the first time in over fifty years; the Superhighway; the Don Chan and Chiang Kham overpasses; all of Mahidol Road, closed at the Pa Daet bridge U-turn in the first round on 28 September; Chang Klan, closed to small cars; lanes on the middle ring; Warorot and Ton Lamyai markets and the Night Bazaar, more than a kilometre from the river on the west bank; the railway station; Nong Prathip junction; the airport–cultural centre–Hai Ya stretch impassable for small cars by 13:40 on the 5th. Water stood about 2 km east of the river. The university's water centre calibrated 5,000 flood marks to the 5.30 m level afterwards.

Inference — the founders built a kilometre from the bank because of exactly this, and the square stayed dry. Everything the twentieth century built on the floodplain between the moat and the river, and across it, went under. The city's busiest road is on the wrong side of a decision made in 1296.
