What it is
The highway counts put motorcycles in a separate column, and across the province's stations they run at about a quarter of the four-wheeled figure; on the Hang Dong road at km 7.65 in 2024 it was 16,378 against 41,450, two fifths. Nationally, powered two- and three-wheelers were 21.9 million of 42.3 million registered vehicles in 2021, and 596 vehicles per thousand residents in 2022 of which 52 percent were two-wheelers. Of Chiang Mai's road deaths with a known vehicle, motorcycles were 79 to 89 percent in each year from 2022 to 2025.
