What it is
The cooperative that runs the red songthaew was founded 1978 with 21 routes. Its president's census in May 2024: red 2,100, yellow 823, white 100, green 70 to 80, blue 50 to 60, metered taxis 100, tuk-tuks 100, rental vans 1,000, app-based vehicles 3,000 to 4,000 of which fewer than 200 registered. A charter inside the middle ring is capped at 250 baht, a circular ride at 30. The city bus, RTC, carried 102 passengers a day after the pandemic on three routes at 50 baht, losing about 300,000 baht a month. The provincial subcommittee's April 2026 minutes put the city at about a million trips a day and set a public-transport target of 13 percent with a 15 baht flat fare.
