A 2005 geography thesis at Chiang Mai University tabulated the city's main-road kilometres against the province's registered vehicles: 36.5 km and 465,659 vehicles in 1992; 49.5 km and 695,172 in 2000; 60.3 km and 933,733 in 2003. The roads grew by two thirds and the vehicles doubled. A current provincial registration figure is not on this disk: the land transport department's table is behind a form this project could not read.
