Planted a thousand trees along a road, and the trees outlived the empire that sent him.

What it is

Siam's high commissioner for the northern circle, Monthon Phayap, in the reign of Inthawichayanon. Under his commission about a thousand yang-na trees were planted along the Chiang Mai–Lamphun road from the Nawarat Bridge to the provincial line, dated 20 October 1882 by one account; a telegram of 1900 in another. He is also credited with the Hang Dong road of 1899, lined with khi-lek trees for the trade to Burma.
