Where it runs, on the map

What it is

The ring about 3 km out: the last ten kilometres of Route 11, the Superhighway, on the north and east; Mahidol Road, Route 1141, on the south; Nimmanhaemin on the west. Nobody planned it as a ring. Route 11 was built two-lane in 1968–69 to shorten the road to Bangkok and four-laned from 2001; Mahidol was built 1972 and six-laned 1998–2001; Nimmanhaemin was absorbed into Route 11 and returned to the municipality in 2022.

The long version

Inference — the airport, the university, the bus station, the railway station and the Night Bazaar all sit inside this ring. It is where the twentieth-century city is. The underpasses at Khuang Sing, San Dek and Fa Ham were dug under it in 2007 and 2018 because the ring became a street.
