Nancy Chandler (๒๔๘๑–๒๕๕๘) ศิลปินชาวอเมริกัน ย้ายมาอยู่เมืองไทยปี ๒๕๑๒ ปี ๒๕๑๗ เธอหลงทางแถวสนามหลวง แล้ววาดแผนที่กรุงเทพฯ ฉบับแรกขึ้นมา แผนที่เชียงใหม่ของเธอออกครั้งแรกปี ๒๕๒๓ และพิมพ์ใหม่ทุกปีสองปี จนถึงฉบับที่ ๒๑ ในปี ๒๕๖๐

Nancy Chandler (1938–2015) was an American artist who moved to Thailand in 1969. In 1974 she got lost around Sanam Luang and drew her first map of Bangkok. Her map of Chiang Mai came out in 1980 and was redrawn every year or two, reaching its 21st edition by 2017.

ทุกเส้นวาดด้วยมือ ทุกตัวอักษรเขียนด้วยมือ สีสด มีโน้ตเล็ก ๆ ตามขอบ ร้านไหนเป็นมังสวิรัติ เธอเขียนตัว V ไว้ ร้านเชนใหญ่เธอไม่ใส่ ลูกสาวเธอเล่าว่าเธอไม่ชอบห้างกับตึกสูง หลังเธอจากไป ทีมงานในกรุงเทพฯ ทำต่อ จนปิดกิจการวันที่ ๓๑ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๖๒

She drew every line and lettered every word by hand, in bright colour, with notes crowding the margins. She marked vegetarian places with a V and left the big chains off. Her daughter says she disliked malls and skyscrapers. After she died, her team in Bangkok kept the maps going until the company closed on 31 May 2019.

This map is not printed. Your browser draws it fresh each time it opens, from OpenStreetMap's roads and rivers and Mot Dang's place records. The paper shifts with the hour in Chiang Mai, picks up rain strokes when today's forecast has rain, and hazes over when the PM2.5 runs high. Vegetarian places carry a V, and the chains are left off. The drawings here are new, not traced from hers.
